Professor Gerry Philipsen joined the University of Washington faculty in 1978. He is an ethnographer of speaking, a communication theorist, a rhetorician, and a teacher of the arts of cultural communication, discussion, negotiation, and conciliation. In addition to his research and teaching, at the university he is a Conciliation Officer and a member of the Faculty Senate, the Senate Executive Committee, and the Conciliation Board.
